Safety-Tow is designed to prevent the separation of trailer and towing vehicle. Safety-Tow is so simple and easy to use. It attaches just beneath the trailer coupler. For hitching/unhitching, a spring-loaded handle is pulled out from the left side of the trailer, allowing a metal plate to pivot down so the coupler can be lifted on/off the ball. For towing, the plate is pulled back up until it locks itself in a horizontal position just beneath the ball shank. Should the coupler try to lift off the ball shank for any reason, the plate contacts the ball shank and prevents the coupler from ever lifting high enough to clear the ball. Nothing to lose, Safety-Tow has no loose parts to keep track of. It comes as a completely preassembled kit which may be bolted or welded to trailer tongue. In addition, it comes predrilled for a padlock to provide a strong theft deterrent, whether the trailer is coupled to the towing vehicle or not. (Patent US 6,382,657 B1)
